During our professional practice as Speech-Language Pathologists, we repeatedly made the same observation. Children who were not yet speaking or had less than 50 words were being taught words and concepts that they were not ready to learn. Adults were trying to hurry children into learning things beyond what was useful and meaningful for them at that time. They were not ready because critical development needed to occur first.
